Policy Initiatives

These are policies we believe would be good for the people. As always, the will of the people will dictate how our representatives vote, not the will of the representatives or the will of this organization.

Economic

Roll back the level of profits corporations can spend on stock buybacks to the 1980 level, which was 2%. Since the Reagan presidency, corporations have regularly spent all of their profits on stock buybacks, which benefit shareholders, typically including upper level management. Encourage profit sharing with employees by giving tax breaks for profit sharing. Companies made 1.6 trillion dollars in profits in 2023 and almost none of it went to their employees. Government can do this.

Tax companies on earning, not profits, just like Americans are taxed. Allow deductions for the number of employees (protects against AI taking as many jobs), salaries, and health insurance policy payments on behalf of employees. Corporations pay 9% of federal tax revenue. People pay 84%. The Supreme Court tells us that coporations are people - well they should be taxed like people. Government can do this.

All companies doing business in the US must either be based in the USA or do their business through a subsidiary based in the US. US companies must use US banks. US banks may not move money from US companies to foreign companies. This helps prevent hiding money. Government can do this.

All companies above a certain size will be audited by the IRS every 4 years. Turnaround time of 30 days on those audits. We have to keep companies honest, or they won’t be. Government can do this.

Federal loans will be made available for startups with special attention to areas that are in need, especially if a large company decides not to do business in the US and leave Americans without services. There are plenty of smart, hardworking people who would love to run the next big company. Government can do this.

Because there is too much power in too few hands, companies that own more than 20% of their market will be broken into smaller companies competing with each other. Competition is good for the people, but not good for large corporations. This is free market 101. Government can do this.

All people working for a company must be employed with benefits. Government can do this.

Companies who have government contracts cannot lay people off. Government can do this.

Companies who lay people off must pay a tax equal to three months of their average wage. This goes into a fund like social security that is separate from normal government funds and is used to pay laid off employees until they find new work. Government can do this.

The minimum wage should be enough for a full time worker to be above the poverty level for that location. Government can do this.

Provide business startup loans for companies that are not for profit. Follow standard banking procedures to ensure the loans have a good chance to be repaid. Any profits the company makes must be shared with employees at the end of the year. Tesla got a huge loan to develop electric cars. Imagine if everyone who worked at Tesla was sharing in the profits. Government can do this.

Anti-Corruption

Politicians and public figures should be held to the same standards as journalists, who must be truthful by law or face libel lawsuits. Politicians can lie as much as they want to currently. Let’s see the politicians cry about fake news then. This will require a constitutional amendment, which will require state legislatures full of representatives who are in favor of it, but if the American people want honesty in their politics and news, there’s no reason they shouldn’t have it. We have to kick out the bootlickers and elect actual representatives. This requires a constitutional amendment.

Corporations are not people, despite what the supreme court has ruled. They do not get to vote, so they should have no part in our political process. This will require a constitutional amendment or supreme court justices who follow the law and precedent instead of their personal desires and the whims of their party. This requires a constitutional amendment.

Any supreme court ruling that is decided by 5-4 will trigger a nationwide vote to affirm or deny the ruling. This will require a constitutional amendment. The people are the best check on the power of the supreme court, not a partisan congress or executive. This requires a constitutional amendment.

Nominees to the heads of executive branch departments must come from that department and have at least 5 years of experience there. This prevents people with no experience from leading important branches of the government. This requires a constitutional amendment.

Executive orders must only be used to enact the laws congress has passed. The executive branch does not make domestic policy, congress does through laws. This will require a constitutional amendment since the supreme court has been feckless and has given the president powers normally reserved for a king. We don’t like kings in America.

Healthcare

The system that helps the most people, without costing too much, is a single payer plan, like Medicare for All, which is what almost every other wealthy country has.

All healthcare companies should be not for profit. Including insurance and pharmaceutical companies. Take those profits and put them back into lower premiums, new research, or profit sharing with employees. Companies in this market should be there to help people, not to make money by denying their claims and charging them insane prices for medications that they need.
